Why Include This

Targets the common wrist/finger extensor group (notably extensor carpi radialis brevis) whose enthesis at the lateral epicondyle is the pain source in lateral epicondylalgia (tennis elbow), and which becomes tight and symptomatic with sustained desk/keyboard and gripping work. Restoring extensor and posterior-forearm extensibility is a standard component of multimodal conservative care for lateral epicondylalgia and generic forearm/wrist overuse, and it is trivially self-administered at a desk for adherence. Honest evidence appraisal: stretching as an isolated intervention has only limited high-quality support — the strongest evidence for lateral epicondylalgia favors progressive loading (eccentric/heavy-slow resistance of the wrist extensors), with stretching typically studied as an adjunct within combined programs rather than a stand-alone cure. The defensible rationale here is mechanistic and functional (reduce extensor tension, provide symptom relief and a movement break during prolonged static desk postures), so it is best positioned as a low-risk complement to strengthening, not a substitute.

    Keep the elbow fully straight and palm turned up (forearm pronated relative to a palm-down start) so the stretch reaches the top of the forearm, not just the wrist joint.

Self-hand assist, arm free

Instead of using the desk, hold the affected arm out in front, palm down, and use the opposite hand to gently draw the hand into flexion; control the intensity by hand so you can back off instantly if it is too strong.

Elbow slightly bent

Perform with the elbow softly bent rather than locked straight. This reduces tension on the two-joint forearm muscles and nerve tissue, making it gentler for acute or very tight/irritable cases.

Add ulnar deviation and finger flexion

From the stretch position, add gentle ulnar deviation (tilt the hand toward the little-finger side) and let the fingers curl further to bias the extensor carpi radialis brevis and finger extensors more specifically.

Progress to loaded extensor strengthening

Once pain-free, advance to progressive wrist-extensor loading (e.g., eccentric wrist extension / Tyler-twist type work), which carries the stronger evidence for lateral epicondylalgia, using this stretch as a warm-up or cool-down.
