📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot
You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:
- Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
- The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
- The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.
Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.
Functional Tasks
26 everyday activities mapped to the movements they require
Bathing and Personal Hygiene
Showering, washing hair, reaching behind back, toilet transfers. Requires 121° shoulder flexion for hair washing, 85° GH IR for back washing. Toilet transfers require lower seat height than standard chair, demanding minimum relative muscle power of 1.0-1.1 W/kg.

Bending & Lifting from the Floor
Hip-hinging to pick an object up from the ground and lift it — groceries, a laundry basket, a child. Depends on hip-hinge mechanics, posterior-chain strength, and a braced trunk.

Breathing
Normal and deep respiratory function. Requires diaphragmatic excursion, rib cage expansion, and thoracic mobility.

Carrying and Lifting Objects
Bilateral or one-sided carrying of objects (groceries, laundry) and lifting from floor to waist. Requires grip strength, trunk stabilization, and coordinated hip-knee-ankle loading. Every 5-kg decrease in handgrip strength increases ADL limitation odds by 9-20%.

Dressing — Lower Body
Putting on pants, socks, shoes, tying laces. Requires 126° hip flexion for shoe tying, 110° minimum for post-THA independence. Standing sock donning requires significant trunk flexion and single-leg balance.

Dressing — Upper Body
Putting on/removing shirts, buttoning, zipping. Requires 121° shoulder flexion, 128° abduction for overhead donning, and 85° glenohumeral IR for hand-behind-back tasks. Fine motor dexterity needed for buttons and zippers.

Floor Transfers (Sit-to-Floor-to-Stand)
Getting down to and up from the floor. The Sitting-Rising Test predicts all-cause mortality (HR 3.84 for lowest scores). Requires deep hip/knee flexion, upper extremity push, and multiple movement strategies (sit-up 60%, side-sit 20%, roll-over 20%).

Getting In and Out of Bed
Rolling from supine to sidelying, transitioning to sitting, and standing from bed height. Bed rise difficulty characterized by increased upper extremity use, discontinuity of trunk/leg motion, and multiple adjustments. Early indicator of functional decline.

Gripping a Cup
Cylindrical grasp to hold a cup or glass. Requires finger flexion and wrist stability.
ADL · 2 movements · 35 exercises

Jumping & Landing
Jumping and absorbing landing — stepping off a curb, hopping a puddle, recreational sport. Depends on lower-limb power, eccentric control, and frontal-plane knee stability.

Kneeling & Getting Up
Lowering to kneel and rising again — gardening, playing on the floor, low cupboards. Depends on single-leg strength, knee tolerance, and balance.

Opening a Jar
Gripping and twisting to open a jar lid. Requires grip strength, forearm pronation/supination, and wrist stability.

Posture Maintenance
Maintaining upright spinal alignment during prolonged sitting or standing. Requires endurance of postural muscles across the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.
occupational · 3 movements · 67 exercises

Pulling (Doors, Drawers)
Pulling a heavy door open, a drawer, or a wheeled bag. Depends on horizontal pulling strength, scapular retraction, and grip.
ADL · 0 movements · 18 exercises

Pushing (Doors, Carts)
Pushing a heavy door, shopping cart, stroller, or piece of furniture. Depends on horizontal pressing strength, scapular stability, and trunk anti-extension.

Pushing Up from Chair
Using arms and legs to rise from a seated position. Requires hip/knee extension and may use shoulder extension for arm push.
ADL · 4 movements · 27 exercises

Reaching Overhead
Reaching above shoulder height to retrieve or place objects. Requires full shoulder flexion/abduction and scapular upward rotation.
ADL · 3 movements · 35 exercises

Running and Jogging
Stance phase decreases to 31% during running (vs 62% walking). Ankle plantar flexors generate >60% of total energy at all speeds. Hip extensors become dominant energy generators at speeds >5 m/s. Peak plantar flexor moment accounts for 96% of step length variance.

Single-Leg Balance
Maintaining balance on one leg. Requires hip abductor strength, ankle stability, and proprioceptive control.

Rising from a deep squat position. Compound movement requiring lower extremity strength and balance.
mobility · 3 movements · 31 exercises

Stair Climbing
Ascending stairs requiring hip/knee flexion-extension power and ankle push-off.
mobility · 4 movements · 57 exercises

Sustained Overhead Work
Painting ceilings, shelving items, hanging curtains. At 80° arm elevation, deltoid force is ~22% maximum and endurance time is ~5 minutes. For postures maintained >1 hour, elevation angle should be <15°. Moderate evidence for shoulder impingement with elbows above shoulder level.
