Why Include This

Prolonged keyboard and mouse use holds the wrist flexors in a shortened, low-grade-loaded position, and adaptive shortening/tension of these muscles is implicated in medial epicondylalgia (golfer's elbow), flexor-side forearm overuse, and general desk-related forearm discomfort. Static stretching of the wrist flexors reliably increases wrist-extension range of motion and is a standard, low-risk component of conservative programs and workplace micro-break routines for computer users. Honest caveat on strength of evidence: stretching alone has only limited-quality support for reducing epicondylalgia symptoms or preventing work-related upper-limb disorders (most workplace-exercise and epicondylopathy trials combine stretch with strengthening/eccentrics, so the isolated effect is hard to attribute), and there are no fabricated citations here. The defensible reasons to include it in a home routine are mechanistic and functional: it restores extensibility across the wrist and finger flexors, offloads the common flexor origin at the medial epicondyle, and gives a desk worker a fast, equipment-free way to interrupt sustained flexed postures. It pairs best with wrist-extensor strengthening rather than standing in for it.

How to Perform

Seated at a desk, place the palm flat on the desktop with the fingers pointing back toward the body and the elbow straight, then gently lean away from the hand to draw the wrist into extension and stretch the palm-side forearm flexors. The desk supplies the counter-pressure so the stretch is fully passive and easy to grade by how far you lean.
