📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot
You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:
- Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
- The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
- FHIR resources are build-time snapshots served as static files, not the live /api/exercises/<slug>/fhir route.
- The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.
Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.
Band-Assisted Pull-Up
Why Include This
Preserves the full pulling arc while reducing load, so the pattern is trained rather than approximated. Band assistance is largest exactly where most athletes fail, which is also its main limitation.
Evidence basis: expert-opinion
Positions & Range of Motion
- Start
- full hang with one knee or foot in the band loop, arms straight, shoulders depressed
- End
- chin clear of the bar, elbows at the sides, chest toward the bar
- Range of Motion
- full hang to chin-over-bar
How to Perform
Full-range pull-up performed with a resistance band looped over the bar and under the knee or foot, offsetting a portion of bodyweight — most at the bottom of the range, least near the top.

Coaching Cues
- 1
Start each rep by setting the shoulders down, then pull
(verbal) - 2
Drive your elbows toward your back pockets
(verbal)
Evidence-Based Dosing & EMG Data
3×5–8, 2–3×/week, reducing band thickness over time (consensus programming, not RCT-derived)

Easier Variations ↓
Scapular Pull-Up
Regress to Scapular Pull-Up. Adds the full elbow-flexion arc on top of the scapular arc; the band offsets bodyweight so the pattern, not the load, is what is trained.
Harder Variations ↑
Negative Pull-Up
Progress to Negative Pull-Up.

Research Notes
claude-researched 2026-08 (bodyweight ladders). Rung ordering is community consensus, not trial evidence — see source bodyweight-progression-consensus-2026. EMG and RCT sourcing pending.
