📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot
You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:
- Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
- The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
- The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.
Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.
Scapular Downward Rotation
Scapulothoracic Articulation • Shoulder • frontal plane
Rotation of the scapula so the glenoid faces downward. Return from upward rotation.
Normal Range of Motion
Downward rotation is the return of the scapula from full upward rotation to rest (roughly the reverse of the ~55-60 degrees of upward rotation that accompanies full arm elevation). It is not measured with a standard goniometer clinically; research uses inclinometers or motion capture. Assessed by observation of the inferior angle and glenoid orientation.

| Muscle | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rhomboid Major | Primary | 25-45% MVIC during scapular exercises [Berckmans 2021] |
| Levator Scapulae | Primary | Assists downward rotation |
