Couch Stretch (Rectus Femoris / Hip Flexor)
Positions & Range of Motion

- half-kneeling with the rear shin vertical against a wall or couch (rear foot elevated, knee flexed), front foot planted flat, torso upright
- End
- rear hip driven into extension with a posterior pelvic tilt while the rear knee stays flexed and the front knee travels forward, chest lifted tall — maximal biarticular rectus femoris/hip-flexor lengthening
- Range of Motion
- combined hip extension and knee flexion to comfortable end-range anterior thigh and hip-flexor stretch, held statically
How to Perform
Half-kneeling with rear foot elevated against a wall or couch. Combines hip extension with knee flexion to maximally stretch the biarticular rectus femoris. Posterior pelvic tilt stretching reduces reactive hip flexor force by 4.85 N·m vs standard stretching. Stretching up to 120 seconds has no negative performance effect.
