📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot
You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:
- Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
- The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
- The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.
Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.
Pinch Strengthening (Tip / Three-Jaw-Chuck / Lateral)
Positions & Range of Motion
- Start
- seated, forearm supported on a table in neutral, wrist quiet, thumb and finger(s) positioned to grip putty or a pinch gauge
- End
- thumb pressed against finger(s) in tip, three-jaw-chuck, or lateral/key pinch to the target load, squeeze held ~5 s then released
- Range of Motion
- small thumb-finger closing excursion through the pinch; isometric hold at target force with an isolated, stationary wrist
How to Perform
Isometric or isotonic pinch against putty or a pinch gauge. Three grips train different thumb-finger couples: tip (FPL + FPB + 1st lumbrical), three-jaw-chuck (opponens, APB, FPB, adductor pollicis), lateral/key (adductor pollicis dominant).

Coaching Cues
- 1
Quiet wrist, isolated thumb — thenar drives each pinch
(verbal) - 2
Pinch the gauge until the needle reaches the target line
(verbal) - 3
Hold the squeeze for five steady seconds
(verbal) - 4
Free hand on thenar eminence to confirm activation
(tactile)
Evidence-Based Dosing & EMG Data
Strength: 6–10 reps × 6-s holds × 3×/week. Endurance: 10–15 reps sub-max × 3×/week.
1st DI stabilizes the index finger across all pinch types. Normative data: Mathiowetz 1985.

Easier Variations ↓
Soft Media Pinch
Foam or low-grade putty.
Short Hold Time
2-second holds before progressing to 6-second.
Harder Variations ↑
Graded Putty Resistance
Progress putty density.
