📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot

You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:

  • Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
  • The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
  • The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.

Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.

Patellofemoral (Knee) Pain

Reduce anterior knee pain via quadriceps and hip strengthening and load management.

Cornerstone Exercises (12)

First-line exercises for this goal.

Clamshell
strength · beginner
Eccentric Stair Descent
strength · intermediate

introduce gradually and reduce step height if it reproduces anterior knee pain

Eccentric Step-Down
strength · intermediate

keep the knee tracking over the foot and lower step height if it provokes anterior knee pain

Spanish Squat (Belt-Assisted)
strength · beginner
Straight Leg Raise
strength · beginner

keep the knee fully extended and stay pain-free

Terminal Knee Extension (TKE)
strength · beginner
Wall Ball Squat
strength · beginner

keep squat depth in a pain-free range; deep knee flexion increases patellofemoral joint compression

Supporting Exercises (22)

These contribute to the goal.

Active Straight Leg Raise (ASLR)
motor-control · beginner
Backwards Walking
functional · beginner

reduces patellofemoral compressive load, but keep step depth moderate early to avoid provoking anterior knee pain

Countertop-Supported Squat
strength · beginner

Keep squat depth within the pain-free range in anterior knee pain.

Forward Lunge
strength · intermediate

progress depth gradually and limit painful ranges during an anterior knee pain flare

Goblet Squat
strength · beginner

manage squat depth and load to keep patellofemoral loading within a tolerable, non-provocative knee-pain range

Hip Abduction/Extension with Sliders
strength · intermediate
Hip Airplane
balance · advanced
Knee Split Squat Isometric Holds
strength · intermediate
Lateral Step-Up
strength · beginner
Leg Extension
strength · beginner

open-chain terminal knee extension raises patellofemoral joint stress; limit range (avoid the final ~0-30 degrees) during irritable phases

Reverse Lunge
strength · intermediate

keep the front shin more vertical and stay in a pain-free depth

Seated Knee Extension (Bodyweight)
strength · beginner

limit to the pain-free inner range; loaded end-range open-chain extension can increase patellofemoral stress

Side Plank with Hip Abduction
motor-control · intermediate
Single-Leg Sit-to-Stand
strength · advanced
Single Leg Squat / Pistol Squat
strength · intermediate-advanced

high patellofemoral joint load; limit depth and progress range gradually during anterior knee pain

Squat
strength · intermediate
Step-Up on Stairs
functional · beginner

Lower step height and limit knee flexion if the step-up reproduces anterior knee pain.

Standing Hip Hike
strength · beginner
Step-Up Variations (Forward, Lateral, Cross-Over)
strength · beginner

control knee valgus and keep pain-free; regress step height if anterior knee pain is provoked

Wall Sit
strength · beginner

keep the knees in a pain-free flexion range; deeper angles raise patellofemoral compression

Wall Sit Isometric
strength · beginner

hold at a pain-free knee-flexion depth; deeper angles increase patellofemoral compression
