How to Perform

Full squat with arms extended overhead holding a barbell or dowel. Requires ankle dorsiflexion ≥36-38°, hip flexion >110°, thoracic extension, and shoulder flexion >170°. Greater rectus abdominis and external oblique activity (2-7% higher) than back squat. Primarily used as a movement screening tool with limited predictive validity for injury when used in isolation.

Common compensations indicate mobility restrictions: forward trunk lean (thoracic), heel rise (ankle DF <36°), arm drift forward (shoulder mobility) [Rabin 2017] AUDIT[low]: Ankle dorsiflexion is the exercise's key stated ROM requirement and is tagged as a movement, yet no ankle musculature (gastrocnemius, soleus, tibialis anterior) is represented. → Add gastrocnemius/soleus (lengthened at depth) and tibialis anterior so the ankle-DF requirement is reflected in the muscle set.
