📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot
You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:
- Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
- The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
- The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.
Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.
Gluteus Maximus
Largest and most superficial gluteal muscle. Powerful hip extensor. The superior three-fourths forms a strong plate-like distal tendon inserting primarily into the gluteal tuberosity (not primarily the IT tract as traditionally described).

Anatomy
- Origin
- Posterior gluteal line of ilium, dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx, sacrotuberous ligament
- Insertion
- Superior three-fourths: gluteal tuberosity of femur via plate-like distal tendon, with partial adhesions to iliotibial tract; inferior portion: lateral femoral intermuscular septum complex
- Action
- Hip extension, external rotation; upper fibers assist abduction, lower fibers assist adduction
- Innervation
- Inferior gluteal nerve (L5-S2)
- Blood Supply
- Superior and inferior gluteal arteries
