📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot
You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:
- Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
- The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
- The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.
Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.
Lumbar Rotation
Lumbar Intervertebral Joints • Lumbar Spine • transverse plane
Rotation of the lumbar spine. Very limited (~5° per segment) due to facet orientation.
Axis: vertical
Normal Range of Motion
AAOS value of 0-45 degrees is combined thoracolumbar rotation measured seated; isolated lumbar rotation is small (about 5-18 degrees total, most transverse-plane motion occurs in the thoracic spine). No widely accepted goniometric norm exists for lumbar-only rotation, so the thoracolumbar value is the standard clinical reference.

Muscles (5)
| Muscle | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| External Oblique | Primary | Contralateral rotation; large obliques dominate over small spinal rotators |
| Internal Oblique | Primary | Ipsilateral rotation |
| Multifidus | Secondary | — |
| Erector Spinae Group | Secondary | Portions have appreciable rotational torque potential |
| Transversus Abdominis | Stabilizer | — |
