📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot

You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:

  • Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
  • The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
  • The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.

Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.

Multifidus

Deep paraspinal muscle spanning 2-4 vertebral segments. Key segmental stabilizer of the lumbar spine. Recent studies reveal two distinct muscle bundles: one from mammillary process/lateral sacral crest, another pennate bundle from thoracolumbar fascia.

Anatomy

Origin
Posterior sacrum, superior iliac spine, mammillary processes of lumbar vertebrae, lateral sacral crest, thoracolumbar fascia (pennate bundle)
Insertion
Spinous processes of lumbar vertebrae, typically 2-4 levels above
Action
Segmental stabilization of the lumbar spine, extension, rotation control
Innervation
Medial branches of lumbar dorsal rami (L1-L5); each medial branch innervates only fascicles arising from the spinous process with the same segmental number
Blood Supply
Lumbar arteries (segmental branches from abdominal aorta)
