Hip Hinge / Deadlift Pattern

- standing with feet hip-width, neutral spine, soft knees, load (bar/light weight) hanging at the thighs or set at mid-shin
- End
- hips pushed back then driven forward to a tall, fully extended standing position with the load lifted along the legs and glutes squeezed
- Range of Motion
- hip flexion-to-extension ~90°→0° via a hip-dominant hinge with a neutral spine and minimal knee bend
How to Perform
Standing hip hinge with bodyweight or light load emphasizing posterior chain loading while maintaining neutral spine. RDL produces the greatest peak hamstring force (1.6 BW BFlh, 1.9 BW SM) and greatest peak hamstring stretch among common exercises, exceeding sprinting demands. Eccentric training including RDL reduces hamstring injury by 56.8-70%.
