📖 Static demo — read-only snapshot
You’re browsing a static build of the Body IQ knowledge graph, so everything loads with no backend. A few things that need the live server are turned off here:
- Global search (sidebar) is disabled — it queries the API.
- The JSON API and the API “Try it” playgroundaren’t included.
- The data is a snapshot — it refreshes only when the demo is rebuilt, not live from the database.
Everything else — the body map, progression ladders, coverage heatmap, exercise finder, and all anatomy/exercise/source pages — works fully. The full app (live search + API + database) runs from the source on GitHub.
Gluteus Medius
Fan-shaped muscle on the lateral pelvis. Comprises four anatomical compartments with differential functions. Primary hip abductor and pelvic stabilizer during initial gait phase.
Draft95%
Anatomy
- Origin
- Gluteal fossa (between anterior and posterior gluteal lines), gluteal aponeurosis, posteroinferior edge of iliac crest
- Insertion
- Lateral and superoposterior facets of greater trochanter via lateral and posterior tendon parts
- Action
- Anterior fibers: abduction and internal rotation; middle fibers: abduction; posterior fibers: abduction and external rotation; primary hip stabilizer during initial gait phase and pelvic rotation
- Innervation
- Superior gluteal nerve (L4-S1) with 3-4 branches supplying different muscle regions
- Blood Supply
- Superior gluteal artery
